Ballot Process Dead and Buried

14 January 2010, 3:33pm

The RTBU have successfully buried RailCorp’s controversial Ballot process which was previously used to appoint Customer Service Attendants.

RailCorp informed the RTBU that they intended to use the ballot process to appoint CSA’s to vacancies that remained following station review translations. The RTBU demanded RailCorp use another method of selection as the ballot process had not been implemented properly and was causing problems and uncertainty amongst members.Following a meeting of CSA delegates late last year, it was agreed that the RTBU should insist that appointed experience in the grade should be used as the criteria for the filling of vacancies post staff reviews.RailCorp have agreed to use the following process to fill positions which were recently offered as an expression of interest:

1.     Only one applicant to the position – applicant appointed.

2.     Two or more applicants for the position – applicant with the most experience as an appointed CSA 2 will gain appointment. Where there are no CSA 2 applicants the applicant with the most CSA 1 experience is appointed.

The applicable date for calculation of experience is the 30th April 2009.

Employees who wish to contest an appointment and claim that the above process has not been followed can make a request in writing to the General Manager, Human Resources, Service Delivery Group to have the decision reviewed.
